Why Gluten Free to Go?
In 2006 our youngest son was diagnosed with multiple food allergies. He is allergic to wheat, peanuts, tree nuts, shell fish, soy, eggs, fish, chicken and sesame. The mere thought of trying to prepare meals for him was daunting. At the time there was very little support or guidance on how to deal with so many allergies especially with someone so young.
When we found out about our son's condition we searched all over the GTA for foods that would be suitable for him. We would go from one end of the city to the other whenever a food establishment promoted gluten free or allergy sensitive products in an attempt to try and find things for our son to eat. Unfortunately, most of the items we found were not very tasty and some had additives that we couldn't even pronouce. Also, dining in restaurants was next to impossible as most establishments were not able to accomodate his special dietary requirements.
Seeing our son at birthday parties or gatherings and not being able to eat anything was heart breaking. We can still hear him as a three year old asking us, "What does cake tastes like?" or "What do cookies taste like?" and so much more, we felt so helpless. Our son's allergies caused him to become withdrawn and extremely shy. When he started going to school he became more self consious because of his inability to eat the same foods as his peers. This made him feel different and affected him negatively. This ultimately resulted in him not talking to anyone at school for two years, it was the darkest time for our family. He did not feel comfortable interacting with others and never participated in even the simplest joys as a child with friends. This pushed us to develop our own flavourful recepies that would allow our son to experience and taste everything that his friends and school mates are able to enjoy on a regular basis. Since we deveoped our gluten free and allergy sensitive recipes, he now feels pride in being able to share our creations with all his friends, especially our sweet bites desserts.
This passion and drive to make sure that our son is able to experience the joys of eating and not feel burdened by his allergies has lead us to continuously modify and perfect each and every one of our creations. We will continue to strive to develop more in the future as this is a never-ending process for us.
This journey has helped us relate to the difficulties faced by anyone with food allergies and this is why we decided share with you Gluten Free to Go. All of our products are gluten free, contain no artificial flavours or colours, no eggs, no shell fish and are tree nut free and peanut free, not to mention tasty. We also have dairy free options for most of our items. We understand the special dietary needs required by people with Celiac disease, gluten intolerance, wheat allergies or any food allergies. We understand how difficult it is to plan an outing or any type of event for extended periods of time since the availability of suitable meals, snacks or treats are always in question.
Not only is Gluten-Free to Go the result of our journey that began in 2006, but at our restaurant we have seen an increasing number of requests for dishes to be modified due to specific allergies. We always do our best to accommodate special requests and encourage all our patrons to inform us of any food allergies that they may have.
Our goal and passion is to provide you with enjoyable and safe food that is convenient. All our products are pre-cooked and then frozen so that you may enjoy them at your convenience. Just reheat them as per our instructions and you can take our products anywhere for any occasion and not worry. Desserts of course are simply thawed and then enjoyed!
We hope to see you soon and wish you health and happiness.
